The themes of the decoration are the Birth of Jesus, the coming of St Vassilios with gifts for the children on New Year’s Day and the coming of the new year.
On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve the children go around the houses singing carols to the accompaniment of music triangles.
On New Year’s Day in the morning between 30 and 50 inhabitants gather and go around all the houses singing carols accompanied by lutes and violins. At each house they are offered raki or honey raki.
On the day of the Epiphany, during Mass everyone goes down to the harbor, where the water is consecrated.
The priest throws the Cross into the sea and people dive to find it and bring it up to him again.
After Mass the Cross is placed on a silver tray decorated with flowers and the individual who brought it out of the sea undertakes to carry it from house to house as pilgrimage, receiving the thanks and good wishes of each household.
