St George Day

It is the feast day of the island’s patron saint.
On that day (April 23, unless this happens to be during Lent, when it is moved to Easter Monday) after Mass, there is a procession around the island bearing the saint’s bones. The “panigiras”, an islander dedicated to the saint follows bearing the icon.
The roads through which the procession passes are strewn with rose petals and rosemary, while everybody present follows it as we’ll as the fishing boats which form a sea escort.
The boats are blessed in the harbor and the proc session returns to the village.
Care of the panigiras and with the help of many others, a meal is offered, boiled beef, meat in tomato sauce and potatoes, meat soup, wine and soft drinks in the saint’s honor.

In the evening the party continues in the taverns.
